Bra Matters

Ladies, I’m just rolling off an amazing pop-up show and must share with you the most amazing revelation for all women.

What’s the one article of clothing that when fitted correctly makes you look thinner and younger?

WEARING THE RIGHT BRA MAKES YOU LOOK THINNER AND YOUNGER.

Yes, I meant for that to be in all caps.

If I had my way, this would be a PSA of the highest proportions. You really should get measured every two years and if you’ve lost or gained over ten pounds, then don’t wait for that two-year mark.

Here are the top five reasons why your bra matters every single day.

1.       According to this article, “Experts claim that wearing the wrong size or type of bra for exercise can lead to neck and back pain, breast pain and irreparable damage to the ligaments inside the breast which can result in breasts drooping and stretch marks.” Youza, I don’t know about you, but, I’m in the pain elimination mode, not the pain increasing mode.

2.       You should have your chest measured every two years. Why? It’s free and because your body changes constantly. Weight loss and weight gain happens, all the time. It’s perfectly normal but what’s not normal is when the cup runnith over or the cup not fillith.

3.       The wrong bra can make you appear heavier. The right bra can make you look pounds lighter.

4.       The wrong bra can make you look older. The right bra can make you look younger.

5.       How do you apply 3 and 4 above? Take a quick test: bend your arm at your hip and look down to see where your breast is in relation to the crack of your elbow. If it’s closer to your hip, you need a new bra. Here’s what you’re aiming for – as close to your shoulder as possible. Yes, the higher the better. Ladies pay big bucks for that adjustment; you can also make sure you have a molded cup bra in multiple colors at your disposal costing you a little less than surgery.

The type of bra you buy is based on your purpose. If you’re getting ready to work out, then wear a sports bra. Most sports bras speak to cup size – buy for your cup size. Why? The bigger the cup, the stronger the support; wear two if you must and minimize the ligament damage that will ultimately lead to sagging.

If you’re wearing a t-shirt, they actually have t-shirt bras with smooth fabric. Lace and patterned fabric bras are not your friends for summer t’s.

AND, please, PLEASE go somewhere where the staff is properly trained. I’m not going to tell you where NOT to go (well, not here, only in person). I highly recommend this bra at Nordstrom.  I highly recommend you buy several and ditch your old bras.

One last note: it’s possible you have the right bra. Are the straps tightened? Check them. They tend to slip in the wash, along with socks.

Oh, and please use a lingerie bag to launder AND never, ever, EVER use the clothes dryer.

Done and done. How do you like me now?

Until next time. Peace.

In love and fashion,
